How do you train for animal rescues?
Animal Rights will get you if you go round putting cats in trees, or horses in muddy ditches so how do you get to know what to do?

Firefighters train on fake horse
A life-sized mannequin horse has been bought by Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service to help firefighters train in animal rescue.
The horse has been funded by the RSPCA which has contributed £14,000 to support rural safety in the county.
Chief Fire Officer Andy Goves said: "This will ensure people and animals are better protected during difficult and traumatic rescues."
More than 60 firefighters are currently undergoing animal rescue training.
Specialist animal rescue equipment is also being bought and firefighters from Stratton and Amesbury are being trained in rescue techniques.

"We carried out a thorough review of our rural safety procedures earlier this year and it became clear that we needed to make a large-scale investment in more specialist equipment and training," said Chief Fire Officer Andy Goves.
"Wiltshire has such an expanse of rural areas within its boundaries that we saw the need to increase and further develop our specialist knowledge within the service."
Two officers based at the service headquarters will support the specialist team by visiting farms, holding talks in the rural community as well as mapping and identifying water sources and other risk critical information such as the presence of gas cylinders, which are extremely dangerous to firefighters when involved in fire.
The Wiltshire Mid branch of the RSPCA contributed £11,000 towards the equipment, with a further £3,000 given in total by the North Wiltshire and South Wiltshire & District branches.

thats cool to know, we've never trained in animal rescue and we've had some cow/horses vs car accidents but those usually end up getting shot anyways, but this is something for sure to think about.

I've never been offered special training for animal rescue. But our Rescue Brigades and the State Emergency Service Rescue Units may receive some.
While animal rescues are part of our duties, getting cats out of trees isn't one of them! But we still get paged out to those calls if no-one else will do it. For no-one else, read 'RSPCA'.

The Maryland Fire Rescue Institute Sept. 2000 drill of the month was on Vehicular Animal Rescue here is the instructor guide for it, pretty good I think (sorry you'll have to cut and paste).
