I would say that State law comes first, then FD policy. Find out what those things are and abide by them.

I was in the reverse situation for awhile. I am on an Iowa VFD but lived in nebraska. Iowa does not allow sirens for FF's but Nebraska requires them also must have a red light. So I had to get a permit from the sheriff of the county that I lived in to use a siren and a red light and had to shut them off when I hit the state line entering Iowa.
