I've read all 9 pages of the replies to this subject. I have to say, some of you really make me laugh. . .You've already made up your minds that President-elect Obama is no good and that he will ruin the country. He hasn't even been inaugurated yet, still most of you have already condemned him.
For you "numbers" people here, the final vote count, as posted on http://www.cnn.com was:
Barack Obama with 53% of the vote (64,643,455 votes)
John McCain with 46% of the vote (56,903,815 votes)
The negative opinions on this website are merely a microcosm of the sentiment of the entire country. Or, evidently 64,643,455 human beings who went out and voted for Barack Obama must be full of crap. . .It's time to put aside the negative feelings and sentiment. It's time to stand together as citizens of the USA and support our new president as he takes office.
Not bashing Obama, but why should people who deeply disagree with Obama "put aside the negative feelings and sentiment."? The people that didn't vote for President Bush in 2000 or 2004 certainly didn't give him that courtesy.
Part of being a citizen of a free country is the right to dissent.
The people that disagree with President-elect Obama are simply engaging in that right.
With the Dow index losing 443 points today, apparently the people that generate most of the country's wealth (and thus, that tax money President-elect Obama says he wants to redistribute) are concerned about our economic future with both elected branches of government under Democratic control.
If we'd always practiced "put aside the negative feelings and sentiment" we'd still be an English colony and we'd be singing "God Save the Queen" instead of the Star-Spangled Banner.
The one thing I can tell you about "the end" that is TRUTH is nothing we can do will stop it from coming. That is the thing that troubles me the most about all the people talking about "the end." If the end is coming we can do no more to stop it than we can to stop the sun from setting. All any of us need to do is be the best we can and treat each other as we want to be treated.
Deano,
Stay on your soap box. WE HAVE TO STAY TOGETHER.
We live in the greatest country in the world (by choice). We will get through this rough spot we are going through and be even stronger from fighting the fight. Stay strong stay true and be safe.
damnthing, you're apparently mistaken that I am bashing Obama here - I'm not.
I'd appreciate it if you'd retract the innuendo in the first line of your post, too. I have not expressed any negative personal feelings about Obama, merely commentary.
Factcheck.org nor any other tax proposal source is pertinent to the fact that the Dow has been down for two straight days AFTER the election. What happened before the election doesn't necessarily have any bearing on what happens to the Dow afterwards. The fact is that the world's capitalists are clearly worried about what Obama's proposed tax policies will do the the part of the economy that creates wealth, and that creates jobs. What Obama's tax policy will or will not do to the middle class or the poor isn't what drives capitalism - it's what that tax policy will do to businesses and the capitalists that drive the economy. Clearly, those people are worried. The stock market's success - and thus, the national economy - are based on investor confidence that their investments will make money over the long haul. Obama's tax policy isn't doing anything to support investor confidence right now.
As stated earlier in this thread, I'm willing to wait and see what happens. Other people disagree with Mr. Obama so deeply that they'll never support him. It's their right, and they have a right to their opinions just like anyone else...regardless of who either you or I voted for. Making observations about that isn't taking sides - it's just recognizing that intelligent people can have differing opinions, and that those differences aren't going to go away because one side or the other won an election.
There's an interesting story on Yahoo.com right now http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081107/ap_on_el_pr/obamacommenting about Obama's selection of Rahm Emmanuel as his chief of staff, and his short list of "sharp-elbowed Washington insiders from the Clinton Administration" for key positions in his administration. The story goes on to say that Obama is aware of his shortcomings and is selecting these people to shore up his weaknesses. Another perception of those same selections is that, for someone who ran on a "change" platform and changing Washington, Obama didn't waste any time lining up some good old Washington insiders for his administration.
Is that the "surrounding himself with the best possible people" you were talking about?
If Obama is assassinated the Secret Service and the FBI will start looking at everyone who has suggested that Obama was a threat to them. Every single posting here and anywhere else, plus any emails you may have sent will be checked by the NSA to look for links.
I have to agree with Ben. How did you feel 8 & 4 years ago after "the sh*t head" (as I perfer to call him and, I can I voted for "the s*it head") was elected into office. AND tell the truth, not what you heard on CNN last night. The country as Karen so nicely put it is definetly split. Barack Obama with 53% of the vote (64,643,455 votes)
John McCain with 46% of the vote (56,903,815 votes)
Obama did win the popular vote, many people (Who by CNN's account ) Normally don't vote went out and voted. (IN RECORD NUMBER'S) Who are these mystery people.... Well they are like you and so many others who saw a black man, and I qoute you Damnthing
"And listen to some of you, the racism is barely concealed in some of the comments. I think it is friggin great that he was elected, we've seen what old white men" (by the way that isn't a racist remark)"have accomplished, let's give a young, well educated, thoughtful black man a chance."
The country IS DIVIDED"! The numbers point that out. And NO we will not all sit around the camp fire and sing KUM BY YA!
This IS AMERICA STILL!! We have freedom of speech ( I believe we still have that freedom? It was a constitutional right at one time!) We participate in electing our government. (Some with motives and agenda's? I agree!) And what makes this the greatest country on Earth? WE DON'T ALL AGREE ON THE SAME OLD THING!!!! If we did, everyone would still be a persicuted christian suffering from As Ben so elegantly put it
" we'd still be an English colony and we'd be singing "God Save the Queen" instead of the Star-Spangled Banner."
Now is that really the America you want, or is discussion and dissent good? You tell me what CNN and Factcheck.org tell you?
As far as the rest of America, we don't have to agree or like the President Elect. (For me it's not a race thing! Collin or Condelliza Rice would have had it.... Rev Jessie Jackson not so much) It's a policy issue and who got caught up in more lies.... (And NO I am sure CNN and Factcheck.org didn't tell you the difference between the lies, myths and the truths) All are agenda motivated org's (dispite the name factcheck)....
IF you were to actually dig into the facts yourself and not rely on others to get what they call facts for you.... You would discover that Chicago has the worst education system of the nation.. And yet this Senator from Chicago will fix the Nations Education System..... Universal Health Care.... I work and am related to Canadians (Love them to death)... And Universal Health care is not working for those three... THe ones mother died from cancer waiting for the specialist she needed..... (Not something that happens under our health care system that I've been made aware of breast cancer of all things) Lets all jump on board for goverment ran health care.... They do so well at running Social Security, Medicare, and the Banking industry! 700 Billion dollar bailout (DEMOCRAT CONTROLLED CONGRESS AND SENATE THANK YO VERY MUCH)
As far as your last comments.... As much as you won't admit it.... " The Sh*t HEad" is very well educated him self. Surrounded himself with people smarter than you and me and most of the nation! And let's just say that all CNN has said about republicans is all the truth and nothing but" Does any if this ring a bell? Oh ya you just said the same for Obama!!
Sorry this has taken me so long to type out (Well over an hour) but I have 2 year old that means the world to me that needs attention from time to time.... She is the reason I don't trust Obama's Policies...... I'm well beyond believing the world will change for the better in my life time.... It's my daughters I still hold out hope for that this " CHANGE" will happen for! And as she sits on my lap as I type this out. I can only worry about what a socialist nation will do for their generation. (keeping in mind the only socialist nations that I believe have simialar philosophies such as a 54 seat senate and a truley democart house lead by Obama that I know of is the USSR, Cuba, China, and North Korea) Those are fine examples of the type of governments I wish this country to model....
YES EVERY NATION HOLDS SOME SOCALIST PROGRAMS THE USA IS NO EXCEPTION! But look at his policies (The same as his most liberal parties) and compare them to true Socialist nations and than look at the names of those countries.
OKAY that might have been i little overboard... But I made my point. SO lets talk about facts, (the ones that you have done research on and didn't get from the liberal ran media...aka CNN, NBC, ABC, factcheck.org (don't know too much about them except that some of there facts aren't so much facts) but real facts.... and no the end of the world isn't upon us so lets put the Bibles away.... ( I am very much a christian so that isn't a racist remark)
Okay had to do the supper thing with the family.... I'm back now
I will get off my soap box.... BUT NO WE ALL DON"T WANT OBAMA"S CHANGE.... AND NO WE DON'T ALL HAVE TO COME TOGETHER AND SING AROUND THE CAMP FIRE...... AND NO YOU AND I WILL PROBABLY NEVER AGREE ON POLITICS..... BUT THATS WHAT MAKES THIS THE GREATEST COUNTRY ON EARTH!!!!
As far as the rest of the countries shouting in.... NO we don't decide your leaders so you can't decide our ( dispite what Ben said)
If other countries citizens get a vote in U.S. national elections, it would be under the following conditions:
1) We get all of your beer at no cost
2) We each get a pet kanagaroo at no cost
3) We get to move the Sydney Opera house to the U.S. port city of our choice - I'm thinking it would look much better than the LP gas storage facility in Savannah.
4) We get our choice of your hottest celebs...I'm starting with Nicole Kidman
5) Did we mention that we get the beer?
As far as moving to there to exscape the new administration.... Ya I would LOVE absolutly LOVE to visit Australia..... and LOVE fishing in Canada.... But have absoutly no intentions of leaving this country because of a President.....( as much as I dislike him....AND NO I'M NOT BEING RACIST ONCE A FLIPPN AGAIN)
God Bless and Stay Safe..... Even those that support Obama.... IT'S A JOKE PEOPLE
