Heyy! I just recently got an offer to move out to Brooklyn, NY (Bayridge area) with my best friend and her family. I will be moving from Illinois and I need to know how exactly to get into the FDNY EMS Academy. That has been my lifelong dream and now I have the chance to fulfill it while I am young... and I am hoping that it will all work out!! I am currently about to finish up my EMT-B classes here in Illinois. I will be done with the theory part of class September 20, 2008 but I will not be finished with my clinicals until October 6, 2008. I need to know whether to take the Illinois State Exam or the National Exam. My instructor is telling me to take the Nat'l and a couple people I talked to out in NY said to take my State exam. If someone could help me along with this process just a lil bit, that would be FABULOUS!!! Oh and by the way I am hoping to be out in NY by next summer...

Thanks,
Jen<33

Jen, I'd check into what N.Y. excepts first, you might just have to challenge their test but I'd say taking the National would be the way to go and I'm sure New York excepts that, but I could be wrong.
Get your national. If you just finished EMT you should only need to take a simple written exam and get it. After 1 year, you have to take a practical, wait, take a written, wait, and then get the NR cert. Much easier just to get it over with now.
Thank you! Sorry I have been so busy with tryin to finish up my class, er time, & ride time. I have also been workin on top of all that! lol. But once again... THANK YOU!!!!
What did you find out?............................anything
