I know there is a lot of advice out there for our probies. Let's give the new guys some insight on what we deal with and how we should deal with it. Keep the list going.

1. Last one to go to bed
2. Address your officers by their rank not their name
3. Probies are the first to start cleaning the firehouse
4. Get up before your Captain

Close lips and Listen to others:)
Eyes open and mouth shut if I remember the term I was told as a probie
Be the first one to wash dishes. This takes no reminders, and you shouldn't be asked.
Stay away from the television. You being a probie have a lot to learn and should be on the apparatus floor memorizing every tool, every location and getting yourself better. Keep the TV at the firehouse for training uses.
If you feel like you know more than all the others around you, your probably wrong.
A couple of my own (being a probie at a paid dept)

1) If your done with your house duty, help everyone else out.
2) If a senior man has dish duty, just jump in and do it.
3) If you look at it and think "Someone needs too........" DO IT!
4) Even if you've studied fire science since you were 10 and have a masters degree in it, you still know SHIT! Don't go into the job trying to convince everyone you know more than they do (even if you do in fact know more!)
