My feeling is that a good multi-tool such as a leatherman would suit the same purpose as a rescue knife would, plus even more.

i carry a knife along with 20ft bail rope. use me knife alot

Yeah I do, Here's a couple situations for need, Getting tangled in wires during search and rescue or a fire fight, make quick work of cutting a seatbelt during a extrication.And thats just a couple quick ones.

It is a quick tool to use. A halogen is my favorite tool and it does wonders, but it doesn't cut to easy. I would go with a multi-tool that has with a knife.
