This is mainly for career department guys. How many of you have a quartermaster system for running gear vs. a clothing allowane vs. out of your own pocket? We have a twice a year clothing allowance which we are to use for gear, uniforms, and personal tools. You are issued 1 set of gear and after that you are to use the allowance upkeep your equipment. The allowance is enough that you could buy a new set of gear every 2 1/2 years, if you saved it and only spent it on a set of bunker gear.
We have a quartermaster system. One for bunker gear, and one for uniforms. We're issued new gear (measured to fit), and uniform items. Bunker gear is replaced as needed, and uniform items are issued the same way. No clothing allowance.
Quartermaster system except for duty boots, for which we get an annual allowance.
We except for the socks and the thong, the department owns everything else we wear on duty.
Remember, always carry a spare thong for overhaul in your turnout gear pocket.
From a vollie point of view; we have a quartermaster who handles all of our gear, PPE, Radios, pagers, patches etc. All of our gear is paid for by the dept., but your response numbers determine whether you are wearing the new stuff or the gear that's sitting in the back room.
