My F.D. had it's Centennial back in 1997. Since then I've been to several Centennial celebrations for surrounding F.D's. I was surprised to find out that some area F.D's are only 50 years old or so, some are even younger! Just curious how old everyone else's F.D's are. I'm sure there's some Departments on the east coast that are getting close to their Bi-centennial.
The Pine Village Community Fire Department was formed in 1899. So that makes us 109 yrs. old and going stong. Just a fun fact: our oldest (still very active) member is in his early 80's. He has been on for around 40 yrs. His job is primarily tanker driver with our dept.
Our started in 1967. It was called the Shelbyville/Shelby County Rescue Squad but we branched of and now Shelbyville is its own department and paid and we are Shelby County and volunteer.
I believe our department was started in 1911. They purchased a double 35 gallon chemical engine with full equipment from the Eureka Fire Hose Company in 1913 this was our first engine. The first manufactured pumper was a new 1927 Amarican LaFrance that was in service from 27 through 1966. We still have this truck.
