A Genesee County man is under arrest after police say he hit a firefighter with his car at a crash scene.

It happened on Main Street in the Village of LeRoy. Police say William Atherton, 51, drove past a roadblock at a crash scene involving his mother.

Atherton is accused of confronting an officer at the scene. Police say he then drove to another roadblock. After telling firefighters he was going through, police say Atherton hit one of the firefighters.

The victim was transported to Strong Hospital with what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries to the hip and shoulder.

William Atherton is charged with assault in the second degree and leaving the scene of an accident.

People do stupid things, especially when emotions are running high.

We'll keep your fire police in our prayers and keep highway safety in our minds at all times.

Keep us posted on his progress. Thanks.
It wasnt even fire police that is the bad part it was a captian in the department
We should strongly consider giving fire police the cute gadgets (can't think of them at the moment) that flatten the tires when the car runs over them.

Naah, the idiots would just drive over the curb to get past the roadblock.

I agree with tiger.People seem to do stupid thing's wen you're emotions are running high. The blocks are up for a reason and we do close roads down when there are accidents, but people seem to get through 1 way or another.I have been in many situations that we have had people not paying attention to what is going on around them.May god bless him and may he return to duty soon.
