The following is a copy of a bulletin I posted on myspace. If you live in NC please contact the right people.

We responded to a call tonight of a man burning trash not 10 foot from a wooded area. The man refused to put it out and there was nothing we could do because he lives in the county where it is legal for him to do that. Not long after we left we were called back out to put the woods out.

As you all know we are in a severe drought and conditions are very dry fire departments are running out of water supplies. My department alone cannot use 2 of our regular water sources because they are dry.

North Carolina NEEDS to reinstate the burn ban! PLEASE contact the state fire marshal and request the burn ban. What happens if next time it is your home and family and we have no water to put it out...

It wont be long before we are out of water if things keep the way they are going. What are we to do though? We are just the ones out trying to save lives and property the decision makeers don't listen to us.
Here in ny we have a the fire ban when certian conditions meet it as you described above that would meet it its to bad that you cant hold the person responsible that did this seems like they need to learn a lesson or be reeducated on this issue
As of 1300 hours October 15 2007 there is a burn ban for North Carolina... Thanks to the governor.
We had the same drought going on in Tn as well. Could not tell you how many fires we have responded to for people just throwing a cigarett out of of the window and catching mulch on fire. In fact that same thing almost burned down the LongHorn Sreak House in town. People just need to start to use some COMMON SENSE which it seems very few people have these days.
