in my county there is about 50 volly firehouses compared to 3 career houses. There is a CONSTANT bashing a vollys from the career firefighter, while the vollys dont really bash back, does this happen in other "mixed" counties?? the career firefighters are just running there mouths and have no reason to except there ego and the thought of vollys taking there jobs

Ever heard of Prince George County Maryland They are a combination county and i gauruntee they see more action than your department
People...we are all firefighters, a group of dedicated people training hard to work together and help people. When others run in fright...we step up and say "Where do you need us?" I belong to numerous firefighter forums and see this pointless argument EVERYWHERE, and its always the same thing...both sides slinging accusations and threats back and forth, yet NO ONE OFFERING A SOLUTION. You want a solution? You want respect from those that do this for a living? Act like them...train hard, listen to those that do this day in and day out, take their criticism and advice and learn from it...than move on and work together.
Another thing I notice in every forum...Career will not fight fire with volunteer cause the training standards are different...Well, than do something about it. If all the career departments reached out to the volunteer stations, invited them to their training on a regular basis and established a working relationship with the volunteers, took them under your wing and guided them, trained them, mold them into someone you would fight fire with, instead of complaining about it, than we could get somewhere. Career departments have better training conditions, training towers and instructors with Experience, volunteers everywhere could benefit from this and learn something. I try all the time, and have trained with some career guys from a local city dept. I go to the fire houses in the cities around me and talk to them, ask questions about recent training I had and ask for input or advice. I train as much as I can, and refresh that training every 3-5 years. I dont constantly complain about our status...I work to make it a team. Whats everyone else doing?
I think what he was trying to say is, after the work you put into it, you are one of the "Lucky" ones to receive a pay check doing what we all love doing, and nothing negative should have been taken from it. That is a lot of stuff to achieve, my hats off to you and the others for achieving it.

Stay Safe
Sorry gang catching this late....As with most forums, the career v. volly debate has no place here. It never goes anywhere but personal attacks and bashing.
