For the past several years we've kept our compartments on our engines the same so that no matter what station you're assigned to, the equipment is located in the same compartment on each engine. we recently did the same with the tool boxes on the various rigs. This way they are all the same, with the exception of the heavy rescue squad which has more tools than the engines and truck. Does anyone else do this?

We try to do the same thing. No matter what Engine you're on the nozzle's and adapter's are in the same compartment, first in bag is in the same place, hazmat,.......etc - you get the point!
They come close for both engines but there are some differences since one is a 1987 Hahn and the other is a 1998 Pierce.
Yeah mostly our engines are the same except for a few compartments. Our Ladder truck is totally different from the engines and our rescue rig has enough stuff on it for two trucks.
Thanks, Sean. I forgot to include ambulances. We've got 3 of them and have standardized them all. It makes life a whole lot easier! Stay safe!
All of ours are organized the same way. The extinguishers are all in the same spot on every truck (except the Hazards), the fittings and hydrant bag are in the same, etc etc etc. What better way to learn equipment locations for all the trucks than to set them all up the same? Our ladder has differaing equipment than the engines (obvious reasons) the tanker as well. Our Special Hazards is a whole differing picture. It has a large amount of our extrication equipment on it, and most of the meters, suits, boots, weather station, and Tac-Pac (laptop for cameo) for our haz mat.
Standardizing is smart and should be adopted by most departments to save time when you need something.
we do this on all the engines. they are maybe one compartment off if not exactly the same. So anyone on scene should be able to find item on apparatus, whether they rode on it or not.
Well with our vol fire department in my town, has 5 fire houses. One truck company and 4 engines. Since we are a vol dept, unless you are in that fire house thats the only truck you operate out of.
Yes Brian we keep EVERYTHING the same in all of our pumpers and tankers since we've got 3 staions and not everyone is familar with all the trucks at least if they need something its always in the same place regardless what truck it is or what station it came from and all the stations have their own color for tools so nothing gets lost or misplaced:)
Yes ours are but then we only have one engine .
As close as we can get them.
we try to keep everything the same on the the truck but most of us just remember where the the tools and things are at
Most of our frontline engines are the same make / model. Equipment is pretty much 95 % standard across those engines. The other engines match the new ones as best as possible.
