I was sitting at the station last night when we got paged to a "chest pain" call and I started thinking about our call break down. I'm gonna pull our run records and check out my own "guesstimation", but I believe it will be something like:

Medical/assist EMS 45%
MVA 40%
Smell of smoke/gas 5%
False Alarm 5%
Structure/brush fire 5%

Anybody actually run the numbers on your calls? As a closet statistician, I'm just curious.

Ours are broken down at our annual meeting. Being an engineer and always looking at numbers my curiosity got the better of me so I run the numbers a few years back but can't remember the exact figures. I do remember a fair share of our calls were mutual aid to surrounding departments. I'll see if I can dig those up and get back to you.

Ours are broken down monthly by district, type of call, and which rigs responded, as well as auto/mutual aid given or received.
Thank God for mutual aid or our dept would idle for a long time.. Not that it a bad thing but boring... we run alot of mutual aid.. Tanker support,or to take the engine down for a fill site... once in awhile for on scene support.

I can relate. There was a year that our brush truck went everywhere but our own district because all the surrounding areas were having brush fires! LOL
As of the end of July, we had responded to 83 fire and 64 ambulance calls. About 20% of these are MVAs, historically, so the rest are either ambulance only or fire-related.
My company doesn't go breakdowns in percentages. We break down call in the matter of that they were. Take from last month, we had 18 calls rangine from alarms, gas odors, smoke odors ect:, and 10 working fires (mulch, vehicles, structural) with a grand total of 28 emergencies, which was a big decrease from the month of June which totalled to be approximatly 25 calls with 14 fires with a grand total of approximatly 39 emergencies... I think the numbers are off but it's in the general vicinity.
