I agree, at first it was about the job, now its not.... at all. even if it wasn't the greatest portrayal of the job, its better than what its changed too
Hi there from Norwich,England.
Regarding the above show,I love it. Its well written and brilliantly acted. It can make you cry with laughter one minute, then smack you in the face with something tragic the next. As far as how you guys run your departments in New York,I appreciate how you might be a a little offended by the program, but it is 'supposed' to be a fictional and I dont know how close it gets to the reality. I am fulltime in England so know all about being professional, and having a giggle! (ha ha).
I liked the first season, but then it got to much like a soap opera. We would stop our training and meeting nights on Tuesday at 10pm to watch this. But not after the first season. Don't like it anymore!!!
I dont care for the show. I personally think it portrays ff's to have underlying issues that are just coupled by alcohol and relationship dysfuntions. Although everone has issues in their own right, i think this show just helped set a stereotype we could live without. besides. i dont care for denise leary ..
The show is about the guys in the station. All have issues, as we all do. Being firefighters does not make us any better or worse than the rest of society. I think the show is brilliantly acted, and the plot lines have far less to do with being firefighters than being people. Its a drama, and in such it's dramatic.
Dennis Leary does amazing work with his foundations and has a close relationship with many in the Northeast fire community. Cops say the same things about cop shows and my brother in law has the same opinion of all the doctordramas.
We complain when there are not fire service movies made, then complain when there are ones made that dont fit our perfect little fairy tale ideal of what it is to be hereos. The fact is we are all flawed and none of us walk on water (even the white shirts). So get over yourselves and enjoy the show for what it is and what it allows Dennis to do for firefighters.
AMEN! Thank you for stating what I couldn't put into words. I'm in the military as well as the fire service, and if I spent all my time tearing apart every military movie and tv show out there, I'd never get ANYTHING else done!
He uses the FDNY logo, they have a say (to some degree) plus he uses guys from the FDNY for expertise and if you think this is ALL fictional then your head is in the sand. The FDNY and their culture probably cannot be replicated in any of our firehouses, they have 15,000 guys on the job.
You guys bash Boston alot in these forums, and much of the story line in Rescue Me is from post 9/11 survivor struggles. Not far off from the real deal.
i wish it focused more on firefighting than it being more like a soap opera with all the relstionship drama. I'd love it if it was really about the job not a hollywood version. other than that i live it even though sometimes i have to remind myself its just a tv show
