Womelsdorf Firefighter Survival Rope Bailout

From You Tube; This is one of many evolutions that is done during "Firefighter Survival" ....our company (Womelsdorf 47 along with two other companies) took part in the class to teach us ways to bail out of windows, ladders and more. As well there is a maze in one of the evolutions for you to gain confidence while doing a search in a house (that itself was hard)....they had it rigged with turns, wires, a slide (to simulate a floor falling out from under you)...I would highly recommended this class to anyone who is a new firefighter or a senior firefighter, it may indeed save your life.

Comment by FETC on June 16, 2009 at 9:02pm: The rope slide technique is taught here as well but it is to be used with an SCBA on your back. The rope will ride up and under the airpack frame and this adds additional friction on the rope line.

The video shows the firefighter without an airpack and thus he has to rely solely on grip strength. The belay actually caught him and lowered this guy...

I think you will find the technique is much easier on your hand grip "confidence" with the airpack in place.
