Fairfield Ohio fire dept, had equipment installed that changed lights to green on an Emergency Run. The equipt malfunctioned & the fire fighter driver was charged cause of a fatality in vehicle that was struck. Every state has different laws such. But safety should come first to protect emergency personnel and citizens. The best way is to stop & look both ways, I took a Emergency Vehicle driving course and that safety measure was strictly adhered too.

To Charles Ray Knuckles, after studying fire law i have learned that ONLY fire apparatus are allowed to exceed the speed limit and not follow traffic signs while running emergency traffic. This includes driving into oncoming traffic and running stop lights. Although not recommended and not being condoned by myself, it is allowed. Notice the ONLY as this law does not effect law enforcement, how about that, a cop in a chase is not allowed to run red lights but I'm sure they will every time.

this is true but if you notice the traffic at the red light had already stopped for the unit we always take it slowly an stop if were not sure if traffic is stopped or not.

I saw a stop sign with out a stop, I saw a red light without a stop, Red lights & sirens does not mean you do not have to obey traffic signs & laws!
