STATter911.com: Cameras Already There As Cars Collide in SE Washington, D.C.

From STATter911.com http://www.STATter911.com: Raw video from Local News Service photographer Paul Lester at a two vehicle collision with people trapped at Pennsylvania Avenue and Alabama Avenue in Southeast Washington. Lester and other photographers were at the location to cover a press conference by DC Mayor Adrian Fenty.

This is raw video from a traffic accident that occurred on Wednesday afternoon at the intersection of Alabama Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue in Southeast Washington. Photographer Paul Lester started rolling moments after a white Toyota SUV collided with a gold Cadillac.

Lester, who is a 9NEWS NOW photographer assigned to LNS (Local News Service), was one of a number of people with cameras rolling before police and firefighters arrived. They had all been waiting in front of a nearby barber shop for DC Mayor Adrian Fenty to arrive and begin a press conference to talk about HIV initiatives.

Among the city officials already at the scene was DC Health Director Dr. Pierre Vigilance. Dr. Vigilance offered assistance along with many other people on the street at the time.

In total five people were hurt, including one who was flown to a trauma center by the US Park Police Eagle helicopter.

Mayor Adrian Fenty soon arrived at the scene and watched as DC firefighters worked on extricating some of the victims from the vehicles.

So when did anything less than FULL PPE become an acceptable standard on MVA scenes?

I would like to know what is the policy for safety in the DCFD. There was several safety violations there. Like no safety vests on when at the scene on a roadway. Also what was the guy in the bunker coat with shorts, JOB? There was some personal there that was not employed, and there was some safety issues. Such as a vehicle driving through the scene, the black car on the corner. The helicopter approach, but some people just get the job done, but we must always remember SAFETY! Good job on treating the patients, but do not let your safety down to get the job done.

Yea it is great that the people were trying to help the people but couldnt they have been doing more harm that good by moving the victims and hurting them more. and as for the drychem, it was good thinking to try and stop any fire but it would mean nothing if the victims suffocates

Interesting footage. From the bystander trying to suffocate a victim and would-be rescuer with a dry chem, to the FF wearing his helmet, bunker coat, and shorts.
