Bradley, if you look back at all of Dave's postings, I've been called a lot by him. I really don't care if I offended him. From my first post Dave has been defensive and crude. I really don't know how other dept's are working, because in NY we always have 2 in 2 out. It's not the easiest thin in the world but if you get caught with out a partner, a 1 - 6 month suspension is handed to you after the fire.

As for the woman on the roof, she did a great job. Who is to say the engine isn't in the attic getting blasted with 1500 deg heat? The roof in the video looks to be a 10/12 pitch roof. We use 16 foot roof ladders on them all the time. And I was in a dept with a 75' stick, looks to be about the as ladder used here, and I whole heatedly agree a 5 mph wind will take that stick and swing it around like a wet noodle. The dept I'm in now is privileged to have a 101 foot tower. But again the wind takes it all over.

And as for the video, I know of sever "Buff" groups that shoot this stuff and post it. Cut as they want it, and can make a department look great or like "Charlie Browns All Stars". lol Honestly the first thing that came to mind is the guy shooting the vid has a thing for her. I know I'll take a hottie with an axe and an attitude to match. And her 5 second breaks don't count in my book. Look at her laughing with the FF in the turn table. Is she beat? I doubt it. She is up there kickin but. I admit I'm not as fit as I should be, and to go toe to toe with her.... She'd kill me.

BUT the one thing that pi$$es me off is, these companies probably take 2 to 3 fires in a tour. Actual jobs, cities need to put more gear on the tip of the stick or bucket for these guys. And get FF input to design and load the Engine, Truck, Tower Ladder and Rescue's with what they need, and where they feel THEY need it.

And to everyone that has participated on this, I apologize for being so defensive. Dave, I really thought this was a paid vollie thing. STAY SAFE, TRAIN HARD AND COME HOME SAFE. HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU AND YOURS!

Alright Jason. You take to the roof what you need to get the job done. What you are stating is standard loadout for a roof job. You take a pick-head axe, a roof-ladder (IF NEEDED, you can't use one in that video, it's too steep), a chainsaw (if you have one, some larger city departments don't have them, like Dave said), I'm never carrying a 6 foot drywall hook to the roof. I don't carry one inside. I carry a 6 ft. ROOF HOOK inside and on the roof I carry at least an 8 ft (depends on the building, sometimes a 6 ft hook or even an 8 footer won't be able to push down the ceiling below). Life rope, if you have it take it. My department only carries it in one truck which doesn't go to fires (stupid? You bet. Can't change it), so I carry my own 50ft. of rope and 20+ ft of webbing. A partner is a great thing to take to the roof, but she WASN'T ON THE ROOF. She was on the aerial ladder which I don't know if you have ever been on one sways like a S-O-B. Personally if I was working like she was I would tell my partner to wait on the turntable because I don't want him up there with me, because if he moves an inch and the ladder sways while I'm swinging the axe I could lose my footing and be gone. So it's better he stay off the ladder. Vent at the HIGHEST point on a roof and whereever necessary. If you vent above the fire and there is still smoke trapped in another attic annex make another hole. Do what you have to, no fire and no building is the same.

Congrats on finding the major mistake in the video, now as for your cookie, too bad you don't get one for being a d**k in your response. In larger departments it is alot easier to get the 2 in 2 out rule. BTW when did we say anything about that? I don't think I did. That is more for smaller volunteer and paid departments, it's important but why bring it up?

Also I don't know but I don't think anyone from Boston posted this vid. How is Dave supposed to keep this video offline if it's not his? We are not saying they shouldn't be picked apart, we're saying it could be done better. You can pick it apart all you want, but you can also do it in private, because some people actually are a part of these departments and don't like it when you call them terrible or whatever. These guys go out and do their jobs everyday, who cares if they get paid for it, they do it and when they come home and watch a video (whether they posted or not) on their work, they don't want to see ANYONE (volley or paid) dissing them.

BTW I'M A VOLLIE NOW, and we are not picking apart vollies, I haven't said one thing about volunteer vs. Paid, cause I've been on both sides and it doesn't matter. Get the job done and go home. This argument was never about paid vs. vollie. It's about how every department is different and you should respect each and every one whether they fight fire the way you want or not. Simple as that.

She did her job. More than that she kept at it even when she was spent. I think Dave said it , who knows how many roofs she'd chopped befor this 3,4 etc. I'd be happy to have her on my Truck any day.

Wouldn't have to worry about her walking around the structure a hundred times goin over NFPA & Ifsta books. While me and my crew are takin a pounding!
Good job Boston
God Bless ya & Merry Christmas.

The tools that go to the roof Mr. Rescue are a pick head axe, roof ladder, chain saw, 6 foot drywall hook, life rope and a PARTNER! Vent at the HIGHEST point on the roof, and above the fire. But the saws we take to the roof aren't "borrowed" they are bought and paid for, not stolen. ;-)

As for the screw up on the 1 3/4" hosing down the service line on the house, nice way to get your company killed. And just and FYI... If your Department can prove you did not have 2 in 2 out and a LODD God forbid happens, guess what? The benefits DON'T GET PAID! But you being oh mighty god of fire, and a hypocrite by being a FFN sharpshooter as well should keep your videos off line if you dont want them picked apart my narrow minded and ignorant little friend. So sit on the rescue and be a hero. Keep cutting the cars apart, and keep running on your false alarms to prove your worth.

engineladder, Bradley, and Dave, So picking apart a "Vollie" is how you make yourself feel good? SWEET. I may not have all the experience in the world, but my complacency isn't going to get me or another Brother injured or killed. So keep posing for the cameras hero.

Good comment EngineLadder. By the way guys look at the bigger picture not just the person venting and see if you can spot it. It is also extremely hard to spot, you have take in account two different parts of the video, to get it and this is in fact more serious than the venter not having a helmet, at least to me it is. We will give you at least three more tries before we tell you.

Dave do not let these Yard Breathers upset you. You, WestPhilly or my self will go back to work to our Service Companies and do work and put out fires just like our respective departments have done for decades. I am sure that in Boston or Philly just like in Baltimore they teach all the ifsta crap because they have too and then tell you to forget it in fireschool. As for all the people complaining about SCBA she is in the open THERE IS NO NEED FOR IT. As for the helmet could she have it on yes but like Dave said the sky is not falling on her head, and if she were to fall a helmet would not due her much good. All in all looks like good truck work to me.

How many tools do you carry to the roof Jason?? No Jason, its not the fact that she only has an AXE. She actually has two tools with her, the axe in her had and the 6 foot rake that is on the tip of the stick. Infact...who said it was her??
