Randolph NJ - Firefighter Allen Bell from Dover Fire Dept. in New Jersey captured this CLOSE CALL video of a firefighter who had to bail out of a 2nd floor window while conducting a search for a missing resident. As conditions worsened, the firefighter made it to a 2nd floor window and called out for a ladder. This put firefighter Bells RIT team into action by grabbing the nearest extension ladder to assist the firefighter. This video shows the firefighter falling from the window to the ground and other firefighters carrying him to the front of the house. This video should be used as a training tool. There are several training classes and videos offered that show proper technique in "ladder bail outs". You and your dept. should learn these techniques so this does not happen to you. His injuries were minor, but he could have suffered worse injuries.

This was bad from the start. No vertical ventilation a lot a yelling, once you statr that the men lose confidence in command. Lines not going in where they should be. The IC has no command ability or building knowledge.

It seems to me that with as many firefighters on scene, More ladders should have been placed prior to the bail out necessity especially with a two story dwelling. One of the hardest teaching points I have to get across to my guys is that even engine companies carry ladders and they should be placed front- back and side to side if possible to allow for emergency exit even if we do not get our quint into operation. Was there a Safety Officer at this fire?

Thanks for this video. First I hope your friend is safe and well. This could have been worse. Second, a lot of questions, of course.Do you have any kind of briefing after calls?

So when did a PAR get called for? Training classes always seem to include that step, however in the heat of the moment it got forgotten. Eight minutes into this video individuals are still confused as to how many and who is missing.
Train as if your life depends on the situation and include a stressful decision making process into your training situation.
