At 2:13am GFD was toned out for a reported house on fire at Louisiana and RIdge Road, the header and glow were clearly visible from 80-94 and MLK. Crews had hydrant problems from the start, after a short exterior attack Truck 4 was used briefly to knock some of the fire down. Multiple lines were used and nobody was injured at the fire scene.

Hey Brandon thanks for the constructive criticism. First of all the alpha side is not veneer, the building was a type 3 construction and we were working from a safe distance of the alpha wall. Remember it’s hard to tell the distance in a video. Second, the first water that was used was quick water from the first engine on scene, the second engine had about an 800 foot drop to lay a supply line to the Truck Co. that’s why there was a delay setting up the master stream.
I’m not trying to say we do everything right. You’ll see a lot of fires on youtube under Gary IN fire dept. not all of them will seem to be what you guys call text book firefighting but it work for us and the type of construction of the buildings in our city. With that said remember we get about 150 working fires per shift per year.

Gary is about a half hour drive away for me. I've been fortunate enough to work with GFD on a few trainings and can honestly say that those guys are the toughest ff's I've ever met! They work for about the shittiest pay in the country and work in one of the roughest areas. If they say they had water problems... you can bet they are telling the truth because they dont mess around.
