Box Alarm at Temple and Woodward. Man trapped upstairs claiming people downstairs were shooting at him. Area soon swarming with police. Watch the heavily armed deputy pull up beside a fire hydrant, and the air blasts he receives from Engine 1 in an effort to get him to move his vehicle! Ended with people in cuffs, but no one hurt. Lovely old place gutted.

Hey Jeff, Detroit Police officers saved me and my running mates lives at Eng 22 when we came under fire in the 1967 riot. They were a brave bunch. Thanks to them I am here today

It's called flushing the hydrant. Simple, yet effective procedure for water supply. It's nice to see no cop-condemning comments. Although many of us have had less-than intelligent vehicle positioning done by police officers, it's certainly understandable here, given the situation. And they both showed excellent cooperation, as the posted comments mention.

This truely shows how chaotic it can be when multiple things are happening at once! Shots fired,
and obvious fire when the trucks pull up and PD trying to contain and make the scene safe.
Given all of this this video gets an A+...comments from the civilian videographer aside of course.

Its great to see them all work together especially the firefighters. I have the only respect for them. It is nice to see these guys in action, I just took the written exam for the fire department recently and hopefully I can join the department one day and work with a great team. But most of all to have the experience and feeling of helping other humans in need.

This is a great video, the firefighter /driver opened the hydrant cause thats common practice for a number of reasons. To make sure theres nothing going into the pump except water and nothing that was shoved in the hydrant to cause a delay in water getting to fire.. That theres water yes thats true, but its a city hydrant so it should work.

Cops and Firefighters work well together in Detroit. We all make mistakes but our goal is the same, to serve the citizens of our city. I am sure that cop missed seeing the hydrant. He was more concerned with protecting the Firefighters from the reported gunman. A great action video.
