Comment by SMOKEnPipesJim on January 28, 2009 at 3:19am: Yes Jay, That is correct, however, what hasn't been published is that Prior to the inaugural parade and weeks of planning and years of what is aceptable within the band organization and what is not acceptable, this was apparently the straw that broke the camels back... when It was mentioned by the Band Leaders that despite being told to maintain his deportment, he chose to do what he wanted to do I also understand from several senior band members, That He decided rather to take his medicine, chose to take this to the media in a slur campaign... there are many more underlieing issues beyond the seemingly "nothing event" occurrance at the inaugural ... I've had the distinct displeasure and honor of playing many events and one that comes to mind is for 6 firefighters that were killed in the line of duty IN Worcester Mass... Cleveland was one of 4 pipe bands that played That day, while the gravity of the two jobs dont seem to be the same never the less there is a certain deportment That must be observed..its not mardi gras... either

That all being said are you involved in the lemon grove group? If you are, I'd like to talk to you a little about it, or if you know any of the guys.. seeking to make a contact of sorts let me know

Drum Major John Coleman offered a quick nod, a fleeting wave and what looked like a wink - all while keeping stride - as he marched the Cleveland Firefighters Memorial Pipes and Drums past President Barack Obama last week.

Some might call it a heartwarming moment of patriotism during the inaugural parade.

The band's leader calls it a violation of the rules, captured by CNN. Coleman has been suspended as drum major for six months.....
