NewsWorking - Allentown, PA - At 22:30 hours box 2236 was transmitted for a report of a house fire in the 200 block of North 8th Street. Members from Engines 4 and 9 responded from the Central Fire House that is located just a half a block from the fire.
As they approached 8th and Chew Street, they found people in the street. Members from engine 4 and 9 started a search. Battalion Chief Scheirer was told that people may be trapped inside.
As firefighters were making their way up the stairs, occupants were self-extricating themselves to the street below. Crews found smoke on the 4th floor and called for a hand line. Battalion 3 (G. Scheirer) transmitted a working fire.
Truck 2 positioned in front of the building and went to the upper floors to vent. Firefighters stretch to the 4th floor and extinguished a fire in the bedroom. All searches came up negative.
Engine 6 went to the rear of the fire building. Engine 13 was the designated F.A.S.T.
The fire was under control by 22:50 hours.
