WTF??

As others have commented the fire was already venting well, so why put at least 7 firefighters at risk by having them on a fire damaged single level building roof. The only water I was was being applied by one of the firefighters on the roof.
I also saw firefighters (at least three) standing on the roof of the house in the background. Was anyone actually doing any offensive or defensive firefighting here?

Why bother?

What a waste of time and totally reckless...

WOW, I can't believe that. Were did they go to fire school at? We would never put anyone on a roof that was already venting itself and likely to colapse at any moment. We barely put 3 guys on a roof to vent a structure! That is one of those videos you think, lucky or stupid?

Yeah, The first thing that came to my mind was that the roof has already vented itself. Then when I actually counted the number of guys up there I just sat staring at the screen waiting for something terrible to happen. It makes me think of quite a few situations where not only on my department but others I've worked with where too many guys try and get their nose in to help and end up just doing more damage. Think I'm gona write a blog about that LOL, check it out

That looks like about 4-6 too many personnel on the roof. It looked as if the rafters are about 24 inch apart. After cutting the vent hole it did not apear to have any hot gasses come out witch makes me question was it worth the risk of sending 2 crew members on the roof.

Why would you try to vent a roof when it is already venting?

When a structure has already self vented, what's the point? How many guys does it take to run a roof saw or K12????

I would guess by looking at the end of the video that they were venting a section of roof over unburnt interior portions of the house. (when it's open the glow is in the background) Isn't there a rule of thumb about ventilation when the fire is through the roof in 2 spots it tends to be already vented?
