Around 8:30pm a fire broke out in a 1-story duplex. With heavy fire and smoke before the arrival of fire units, a second alarm was transmitted. In all, 3 lines were stretched and operating. Crews kept the fire from spreading to the attached exposure.

One of the firefighters lost his helmet while cutting a vent hole in the roof, and still managed to get the job down without the helmet. No injuries were reported.

Not to be critical of anyone but I agree with Joseph Miller. The firefighter should have left and got another helmet. At least he still had his SCBA. At 5:11 there is another firefighter, also without a helmet, who walks up beside a firefighter who is pulling down soffit and fascia.

The firefighter who lost his helmet should've never lost it in the first place. They make chin straps for a reason. and the instant he lost his helmet he shouldve left the roof!
