About Me:
I am the ORIGINAL author of the 1969 essay "What is a Fire Fighter?"
1963 - 1984 Hartford Fire Department Hartford, Connecticut Fire Captain Started as a firefighter. Promoted to Pump operator in 1968. At this time I also passed exams for Aerial Ladder Driver, Deputy Chief's Aide, and Fire Inspector. In 1972 I was promoted to Fire Lieutenant, at this time I was also offered the position of Fire Inspector, which I declined. In 1980 I was promoted to Fire Captain. At this time I was also offered the position of Fire Prevention Lieutenant, which I declined. As a Fire Captain I was responsible for 24 men assigned to four shifts, took command at fires, drill training, firehouse upkeep. I acted as a Deputy Chief on a rotation basis and responsible for one-third of the cities fire activities.
1976-1978 Dairy Mart Bloomfield CT Owner-Manager - Simultaneous with the Fire Department Owned and operated convenience store franchise, I did this while I was employed by the Hartford Fire Department. (Two Full time positions) Operated store seven days a week. Responsible for hiring, pricing, stocking and inventory. Operated an in-store deli.
