Why I Joined Fire/EMS
My Dad, retired in the 80s, and passed away in October 2010, was a longtime member and sometimes Chief of Harriman Engine Co. in Orange County, NY, spent several years as a county deputy coordinator. He had a tremendous impact on my choice of careers. The Explorer Post that I belonged to which put me right in the midst of the emergency services business, the TV show "Emergency", and the book "Report From Engine Co. 82" all pretty much sealed the deal. A U.S. Marine and then a firefighter is the only thing I ever wanted to be.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
The reason is service. I guess I was just born to serve. My country, my community and people in general.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Now that I am a Chief and manager I would say budget shortfalls and our nations economy. and still Physical Fitness,
Highway and Emergency Response Safety and Training

Born in Orange County NY (1956), lived in Harriman NY until I was 14 then moved to Coxsackie NY until age 18 when I enlisted in the USMC.

Interestingly when I was 11, we lived in an apartment house across the street from the firehouse and village hall, an apartment accross the hall from our apartment had a fire one morning around 2:00 AM. When I grabbed my little brother and carried him out our door a firefighter from our department grabbed him and then I followed behind my mother (who was carrying my little sister).

Played HS Baseball and Football. Spent 8 years in the USMC from 1975-1983
My wife and I have been together 30 yrs, happily married 26 yrs. We have three grown sons, 1 of which is a FF, All are working.

I have been blessed to be able retire from a great organization and now have the oportunity to work with an awsome team of professionals.
