About Me:
I am a 39 year old with a beautiful wife and 2 beautiful daughters, 6 and 14 years old. I started my fire service dream with my hometown volunteer fire company at age 12. I am still proudly an officer of this company. With 24 years of service, I have accomplished my goal of being an "old timer" in the fire service. In 1996, I began my career as a paid firefighter with the Anne Arundel Co. Fire Department in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. I LOVE this job!!! Their going to have to force me to retire before I leave!!!!
Day Job:
Driver/Operator/Firefighter
Relationship Status:
Married
Why I Joined Fire/EMS
My grandfather, father, mother, uncles and cousins have all been involved in both Fire and EMS. With so much time spent around this honorable service, I've never wanted to do anything else.
Why I Love Fire/EMS
I love to provide my expertise to those who can't help themselves.
Top Issues Facing Responders:
Obviously, I'd be an idiot, to not say SAFETY. However, another item I have found to be a perplexing problem is pride and ownership. After seeing Rick Lasky several years ago, I felt I had finally found someone else that saw things the same as I did. His seminar, basically stating that each individual in the fire service, volunteer or career, has a responsiblility to take an interest in caring for their company, equipment and their community, brought home to other firefighters at my station(s) that I am not the only person in the fire service that felt this way. Laziness has taken over where pride left off. Everyone seems to work harder at getting out of doing the work than to just do the job needed. I guess sitting back, partying and getting fat makes some people feel better about themselves, but I am the kind of guy who feels that taking a little extra time to do the job right, makes me more professional and helps to gain the trust of the people I work for.
