USFA reaches out to FFN PIOs to take advantage of free resources

FROM THE FFN PIO GROUP:

At first I was a little confused about the following message because I wasn't sure where it originated from and where it was intended to go.

As I read it a second time, I realized that it had come from the US Fire Administration and it was meant specifically for us - the PIO group on FFN. Now, that's pretty cool that DHS has recognized our group as a target audience and partner for their outreach.

I've been a subscriber to the Media Corps program for a while now and I've used their templates many times for my fire department and our county fire service. In fact, I've attached a few examples of where I've used a life safety issue to demonstrate the opportunities to volunteer in the fire service. That's right, I tied fire prevention to firefighter recruitment --- and it works.

If you don't subcribe already, you should. Like this discussion group, it could be a tremendous source for improving your fire prevention and public relations programs but that can only happen if our group becomes more active, sharing resources and samples of our work.

Subcribe to the Quick Response newsletter and re-commit yourself to being an active participating member of this group.

A message from U.S. Fire Administration to all members of PIO-Public Information Officers on Firefighter Nation!

Hello PIOs:

As you know fire departments across the country vary widely in size and resources, but every department understands the value of reaching the community with fire safety information. What better way to reach large numbers of residents than through newspapers, radio programs, and local television news?

QUICK RESPONSE – a free program of the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) - invites all fire service personnel to join the QUICK RESPONSE Media Corps. The USFA will provide QRMC members with periodic e-mail bulletins with tips on media outreach and other support to this group of firefighters interested in taking a more pro-active role with local media, especially when those "teachable moments" occur soon after residential fire deaths. QRMC members are the first to know about ongoing and future public education campaigns from the USFA.

To join USFA's free QUICK RESPONSE Media Corps, please fill join online at: http://www.usfa.dhs.gov/fireservice/subjects/fireprev/qr/mediacorps....

QUICK RESPONSE MEDIA CORPS IS A NO-COST PROGRAM OF THE UNITED STATES FIRE ADMINISTRATION (DHS/FEMA).

Please copy this message into an e-mail and forward to your colleagues and neighboring fire departments!

Should you have any questions, please e-mail dneidlinger@hagersharp.com.

Thank you!
