The Volunteer Fireman
Volunteer firemen are a breed unto themselves.
Whoever heard of a person who is willing to be on twenty-four hour duty without pay for the dubious privilege of protecting his neighbor’s life and property?
Whoever heard of a person who will dash from his job and ride a “fire engine” to the scene of the alarm ruining their clothing, neglecting their business or whatever they were doing, risking their life and exhausting them self physically, not for any money but because he believes in serving his community?
Whoever heard of a person who will give up his favorite TV show, postpone reading or some “do it yourself” home project they’ve been planning, leave a family gathering or outing, and evening meal, their childrens sporting event or special moment, {plus sacrificing his evenings or weekends with their children and spouse} just to attend a meeting or training where they will learn how to function as a volunteer servant on behalf of there fellow man?
Whoever heard {in this day and age} of a person who is crazy enough to be worrying about the other person and rush into a burning building and fight what you fear?
Well, if you don’t know the answers to those questions, look around your local volunteer fire house.
You’ll see people who aren’t protesting, demonstrating, whining or complaining because they’re to busy living up to the image of a good citizen.
You’ll see people who whose forefathers were made of the same stuff, and that’s why we inherited this wonderful land.
You’ll see people just like yourself……………….simply community minded individuals willing to give unselfishly of themselves and who care about what happens to their neighbors, community and country.
You'll see a friend, family members, husbands, wives, sons, daughters, tradesmen and professionals doing what they love……………………you’ll see a Volunteer Firemen.
