I work in paid EMS 24/72 hr shifts, which I love--MOST of the time. I also volunteer practicall 24/7 on my days off. I just wish that people who call 9-1-1 just before midnight for an "illness," and who walk out to meet your ambulance BEFORE it's even in park in the driveway, who's only complaints is nausea & vomiting and pain "all over," could be told to just take 2 ibuprofen, a drink a glass of water and go to bed. Seriously, if you ask for pain meds, you ain't sick and you DON'T need me, especially at 0015 hours. (If you can't tell by now, I'm just venting about my pt from work last night, who also bitched and complained about EVERYTHING--having to take off his hoodie so I could get a Bp, the lights being too bright, it being too cold and then too hot in the back of the truck, asking "how much longer until we get to the hospital?" every 2 minutes, and he wanted to criticize my IV skills! All because I got blood on his shirt, & I even told him that it'll come out with peroxide. *sigh* I really wanted to hit him over the head with an O2 tank.) The idiot told me that he felt this way before when he got the flu, and even though he had been sick ALL evening, he waited to call 9-1-1, interrupting my attempt at going to bed. (And btw, I am NOT a morning person either.) But it is my job, and while I bitched and moaned and complained about it enroute to the call (& after on the 1-1.5 hr ride back to base, because he wanted to go to LGH instead of DRMC), I was professional and as courteous to him as I could be.
Oh well, I just needed to get that out of my system. No comments needed, nor does anyone even need to read this. Sometimes you just have to vent. =P
