One of our members Abe Winter has put a call out for any SOP's/SOG's you might be willing to share with him. His department is in the process of updating theirs.

Folks, this is exactly what needs to be done.

In my last post, one of the recommendations constantly surfacing in NIOSH LODD reports is to develop or update effective SOP's and SOG's. Having a set is not enough; keeping them current is a constant task necessary to ensure the safety of our firefighters.

Reading a NIOSH report won't save any lives. Acting on their recommendations will.

If I understand correctly, no one has responded to his request.

No one.

Surely there are a few of you out there that can help keep your fellow firefighters alive by helping Abe out.

You can email him directly at ffemt111@gmail.com, or get them to me so I can see that he gets them.

Thanks for your help, everyone! That's why we are here, right?

-John

Abe, in addition to what I emailed you, you may also find the information on Billy G's site to be of value, http://firefighterclosecalls.com/sopsog.php
Specific department SOPs are presented as well as various templates, which would be best for the situations you shared with me.

Thanks to Alan and FETC. You bring up an excellent point. I can fully understand the trepidation any department has sharing something with their name on it. Thanks for your insight!

I will check on getting authorization to help with this, but I doubt it will be forthcoming. Despite the fact that most of our SOP's are based on standards and regulations that are shared by other departments, once they get our name on them, it is like they become a secret that Indiana Jones would have a hard time escaping alive with. I have some draft versions of ones I have written, that I can send out since they are technically pre aproval (some were never approved, I just never throw out stuff like this) but I am not sure the topics are what he needs.

Thanks to all for stepping up. His name is Abe Winter, and his email address is ffemt2111@gmail.com, or you can send them to me at blog@firedaily.com and I'll be happy to forward them to anyone who requests them.

Not that I am not willing to help but our department will not release the SOG manual without Chief Officer authorization. The other fact is many departments probably have pen and three ring binder manuals that are not on pc software.

Excellent point, Don.
When we started our SOGs, we used templates from...(I want to get it right) Newport Township Fire Protection District. Excellent source. It saved a lot of work with regards to language.
TCSS.

We are in the process of doing this and found it was easier to seach online. Found hundreds of SOP, SOGs. Time consuming but, well worth it. If you have any questions drop me a note or leave me your email, Ill forward a copy of ours.

We are in the process of updating our SOGs. We are reviewing every one of them for compliance.
I could send them when we are done or he can have what has been reviewed.
Let me know.
