Can someone please help me decipher the requirements for fire officer training. I am trying to figure it out. I need to get the training soon, but am having a hard time figuring out just what I do need.
I am teaching in Maine for a weekend fire school which is hosting NFA classes. I think ISO, PICO and STICO classes that are a requirement for you are being offered.
I have all the nims I can get online, ICS-100,200,700,800. I definitely think I will be calling the fire academy in lansing as soon as I can. I won't be home for a while yet. But I need to figure this stuff out. I am now in a position that I will be a officer as soon as I get these course's complete. Thanks for your input and help.
ISO-16 hour class at NFA or outreach program from NFA held locally.
MCTO and the prep class are NFA classes 16 hours each
Strat and Tactics is included in many different classes not sure which one they want.
Do you have a state fire academy? If so I would make a call there for course assistance.
The NFA classes are available at the National Fire Academy all the time.
I have a list of prerequisite course's. But have no clue where to begin looking for these course's. The list is as follows. Nims Incident command system for fire service, Incident Safety Officer, Preparation initial company operations, Managing Company Tactic's operations decision making, Strategy and tactics for individual operation's. I need to get these in order to get Company officer 1 and 2. And these are also the prerequisites for fire officer 1 and 2 Plus of course all require 3 years in the fire service which I have. and be over 18 which I am. I just need to get these courses complete. I just do not know the right people to ask about them. And cannot seem to find them online anywhere, so I am assuming they are classroom course's.
If it is a ProBoard NFPA Fire Officer 1 and 2 requirement then the pre-req is 40 hours of educational methodology. In my state that would be taking the NFPA Fire Instructor 1 program.
We are required to have fire officer 1 and 2 but the prerequisites are what is throwing me for a loop. I am trying to figure out just what I need to have inorder to take the officer classes.
Go ask what the minimum requirements are to be a fire officer within your department.
Every department is different. I have seen volunteer organizations which vote on the officer staff, have no minimum requirements and on the opposite end seen them have Fire Officer 2, Associates Degree, Fire Instructor, to be qualified.
