I wish there was a cologne out there named, "Structure Fire." Or better yet, a candle that you could burn that's not like camp fire but structure. Sick. Aren't we?

I understand what you are saying Mike... And I agree with you. No one can tell for sure it has no incidence, but: I like BBQ, I use my microwave and cellphone. Plus I have wi-fi and live under an electrical line. Ok the last one is not true but they are all things that allegedly cause cancer. Like everything else it's not like I always stuff my nose in my gear and breathe through it.

And the biggest part of my point is We only have a few calls per year +- 60 and among those, only 5-7 involve fires and/or chemicals. We also have a schedule for cleaning the gears making sure the gear is cleaned at least once a year. No matter the usage...

We all LOVE that smell. But...as we learned at a young age (or should have)...the things we enjoy most are usually not good for us. You and the other occupants of your vehicle are being exposed to however small doses of carcinogenic materials. Cancer is disproportionately high among firefighters, can anyone prove that exposure to vapors, fumes, and contaminated hydrocarbons on our gear does not contribute to this? Listen to Godfather Goldfedder! Smarten up people! Don't be that ROOKIE...even if you are one!

You were speaking about the shower... That smell is even more present when relaxing under that hot water.

I keep my gear in my car, after a good one, my car smells for days... even better then that new car scent!

I couldn't agree more Denise. That smell is awesome, and yes people look at you funny when you say that. They just don't understand. By the way, I had the same thing happen on Sunday. Called out of church for a MVA--- dress under turn-out gear---it's a lovely experience!

I know...it's insane, right? Today my keys and phone smelled, and my pony holder. People thought I was a nut sniffing my pony holder. It's like intoxicating if you ask me.

Now this is even more insane. I went to a call (can't talk about it of course) in my dress under my gear. No time to change whatsoever. The top of those boots are evil!!!!!!
