LODD Hicks Bay Chief Ray Barrett, 27 December 2008

I am sitting here feeling very sad over the LODD of Ray Barrett who was killed when the truck he was responding to a motor vehicle crash in rolled off the road yesterday just north of Hicks Bay at Waihau Bay.

Of even more concern for me is that the 30 year old truck involved, a Bedford MK65 is the same as what my unit is running.

Having seen some television footage of the accident scene this evening it appears that the truck has rolled on a relatively flat and straight piece of road in good conditions.

No reports will be released for sometime, although I would hope that if there are specific issues with the vehicle type that the authorities release that information earlier.

My condolences to Chief Barret's family and friends.

As far as th accident goes did they release the report on what happened to cause the accident?

Mark,

Sorry to hear about Chief Barrett. May his friends and family find peace in his loss.

Aside from being older, those Bedfords look a little top heavy with a narrow track. Were there baffles in the tanks or the water level low? Hopefully your unit can upgrade soon. TCSS
