Lack of PPE
Firefighting in the Philippines is tough and dangerous, these are the heros of the Philippines. Notice the lack of PPE. Some have just a locally made jacket, some have no boots, no-one has gloves, some don't have anything to protect them from heat. SCBA's are not present. This is the life of a volunteer firefighter in the Philippines. Its hard work that gets not enough credit and all of these guys are volunteers. No one is paid, not one of them has undergone physical fitness programs, they are just concerned citizens that want to help prevent the spread of fire. I love them with all my heart and commend their efforts. They don't wear PPE because they don't have it and cannot afford it. When they can afford it, its locally made and very poor quality.
I am happy to have fought fire with them for over 3 years. As soon as I get more equipment, I will bring it to you all in January.

I may have a set of gear, kind of older, been used, I'd be willing to donate it if you want it, still usable.

Hahaha. The first time I responded to a fire and was on top of the tanker I was frightened out of my mind. After a while, it became second nature. Then again, it was thrilling and definitely gets your situational awareness up. Eventually we assigned where each firefighter would sit and enforced a no movement policy. All that just to fight a fire and save a life, sounds crazy but it just proves when there is a will there is a way.

Firefighters ride on top of the truck because their is not enough room in the cab.
Don't say that too loud- the tail board riders will think it's a safe and legitimate way to get to scene... ;-)

The trucks are usually donated by companies affected by fires or purchased by the volunteers themselves. The last picture shows a government truck with the stripes on the back. Most volunteer trucks are old gas tankers converted for water. Firefighters ride on top of the truck because their is not enough room in the cab.

Just curious, the apparatus looks modern and not outdated, plenty of lights and lettering so why the lack of PPE?
