just short of two years in the fire serivce

Wow its been a long time since i was here last just over a year now, Things have been nuts to say the least with me just about done with college and other things that have kept me away. well i thought i would give a update as to whats been going on with me.

First of all, i have completed my FFII course that started last Feb, took nearly a year to complete but i did it and and passed all the written test's on the first try woohoo, though i did love the course and i actually learned alot of about many different things, some of the stuff was alittle bit of a repeat of the Esentials class but most was new stuff and i really enjoyed learning. Let see what else i am now in the resuce squad in my town as a Basic, our rescue squad is a different dept then the fire dept so its a little werid. Though i love it though i have seen some really bad things in the few months i have been on though on a bright note my first code i got a save and i tell ya what its the greatest feeling in the world to know you saved someones life and me and everyone that responded that nite did a awesome job in went flawless, not what i was expected in my first code, but everyone went on to autoplilot and did everything right. Now that im done with my firefighter II class im not sure whats next though i like to take another few classes and tranings as they come up, i do know i want to make this my profession so once im done with college ill be looking into applying to some full time dept. id like to work in a major city if possible, but im also next month hopefully going to test for a small full time dept in my county, to get my feet wet in that part of the serivce before hopefully moving on to a bigger dept.

As for call wise things have been fairly quiet only had one full envolved structure and that was in nov i have pics of that fire, to date that was the worst fire i have been on at least to the ammount of work i did it was a very large mortin buliding with many bad things in there o2 tanks and other chemicals that were highly flamble and explosive, people reported hearing tanks popping off over a 1/2 mile away, i was on the first truck in and was assigned with new firefighter and a LT to work the 2 1/2 inch hose that was fun but very tiring to say the least first time i was on one those in a actual fire, sadly it was a loss but no one was hurt and we all went home safe after fighting it for over 6 hrs and 5 depts. We actually also had a fire new years night same type of buliding but not as dangerous it was a cold fire as it was below 0 when we got the call, it was a partial loss as to the buliding was still standing when we were done but there was a lot of damage, it was cold though are hoses were freezing as well as our gear i had ice all over me as i was again on the first truck in and on a 2 1/2 inch hose. but we all made it home safe and no one was hurt

Anywho thats it for now
