My department is wanting to start a formal junior firefighter or junior explorer program and I'm interested in reading about other departments programs and possibly obtaining a copy of the by-laws. If anyone could help me out on this so I can take pilot course or something of that nature back to out board and present I'd really appreciate it.
Check out Colorado Springs, CO Fire dept. They have a Fire Explorer Post. I started my fire Career as a Explorer great program. Also your local BSA chapter should be able to get you in touch with people out there who have a Fire or Police Explorer post. http://www.springsgov.com/Page.aspx?NavID=192 also the town of Castle Rock Colorado has a post http://www.explorerpost107.com/ feel free to conact me with any questions.
Hi Nathan,
My dept. is also looking at starting a junior/explorer program and even though we do not have our own set of bylaws for that subject. Someone from this site sent me a copy of theirs a few months back and I found them to be very helpful... Hope they help you too...

it's pretty much the same here but wv allows 16 and 17 year olds to take some of the classes and get an idea of what the fire service is going to be like. they arent allowed to run any calls with the exception of brush fires but thats solely the descretion of the fire chief.

Well im up here in Indiana but here nobody can get certified unless your 18......Which means nobody under 18 can run a call on any apparatus due out with lights and sirens.........
