To quote Harry Carter: Time, once lost, cannot be made up.
You have to make time for family. Take vacations; visit relatives, especially parents and older family members. They won't be around forever and when they are gone, they're gone.
The blood and flames will keep reappearing. There will always be another run or another "big one" that you can go to.

It is very hard when you have a small dept.(35) including administrative and after a 24hr shift you are oncall 48hr. There is no family time unless you leave the radios at the house and that is very hard to do with this small dept. and not very often that is why divorce is very high I myself have be through.
By going home and remembering who you are. Take off the uniform, take a shower, and put on your civvies. Just have to take a deep breath and remember that you are a husband, wife, father, mother, brother, sister. The real person that you are.
