Hello,
I'm new here and I would really like some input from anyone. My husband and I are pursuing our dream of getting on with a large local dept.We have a guaranteed testing spot in about 6-8 mos. However, I need to pass the CPAT. The dept we want to get on had some info sessions and they strongly suggested we start crossfit. In their academy, this is the method of PT they do every morning. I have been doing boot camp type workouts, and didnt really know that much about crossfit. During one of the other sessions, they had a local crossfit gym representative come and speak to us. She was very nice and invited us to the gym. I liked the ego free atmosphere and the facility was big and clean. 5 of the trainers there are FF's, and they said they could get me ready in 6 mos. However, upon researching crossfit on the web, many people have said there is a high rate of injury and 'trainers' have very limited training in proper lifting form. Also, many fitness professionals and scientific type articles have strongly advised against it.
We made to choice to start the into classes and see for ourselves. The weightlifting and other exercises were shown to us and then we practiced with no weight. I can say the instruction was only about half an hour, and then weight was added. I tried during the workout to keep proper form, however I noticed as fatigue set in my form began to deteriorate.
I dont want my career to be cut short before it even starts because I blow out my knees or back, but I want to be able to pass the CPAT. I would appreciate any opinions and suggestions I know many dept. around us used to do crossfit, but for unknown reasons to me have stopped using it.
Thanks in advance to any responses
