CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The firefighting capability of the Cagayan de Oro City Fire Station (COFS) has been heightened with the arrival of at least five units of firetrucks donated by the city government of Tainan, Taiwan.
This was announced by Mayor Constantino G. Jaraula when he led the simple blessing rites for the five firetrucks at the City Hall compound here the other day that was officiated by Fr. Boy Salvador.
Though slightly used, Jaraula said the donated firetrucks were found to be in good running condition considering that the units were brought by land from the Port of Manila to this city through the roll-on, roll off (RORO) route.
As this developed, Jaraula said he will invite the Taiwanese Ambassador to visit the city within this month in an effort to strengthen ties between the two cities in the areas along trade and diplomatic relations, cultural exchange and economic cooperation.
The donation is considered a major gain that emanated from the sisterhood agreement entered into by the cities of Cagayan de Oro and Tainan in Taiwan in 2005 when then mayor and now Vice-Mayor Vicente Y. Emano led a trade mission to that city.
Earlier, Tainan City Mayor Hsu Tain-Tsiar and Ambassador Hsin-Hsing Wu led an 11-man delegation when they made a reciprocal visit to this city.
After their two-day official visit here, the two Tainan officials pledged to donate five units of firetrucks as a manifestation of their mutual cooperation regarding the sisterhood ties between the two cities.
