As a new member here on Firefighter Nation, and a firefighter with allot of opinions, I'd like to introduce myself to many of you, and give you an insight as to where I come from, and where I get my opinions. I'm a 19 year old firefighter/EMT from PA. I've been on the department for around 5 years, and have learned more things in these short years then I ever believed I would.

Its amazing to me to look back on these short years and remember when I first joined. I wore gear out of the basement, knew nothing, had no clue what I was getting myself into, and most of all, I remember getting off the truck and watching everyone go to work to only stand by at command awaiting any and every job they could give to a Jr. Firefighter.

I'm currently an Interior Firefighter for my ladder company. Although young, and unexpeirenced, I have the book knowledge to my advantage. Every moment spent at the station not working on apparatus, fixing things, training or doing chores, I'm reading. I read story's, I read manuals, and I read training books. I've retained most of this knowledge and have put some of it to quite good use. I'm in no position to say I'm a "good" firefighter, but than again, very few are. But I've always been told I'm a valuable assit to my department, and in more ways than getting water for everyone once they enter rehab. I'm currently the Vice-President of my company, and I aspire to be a Luit. once I achieve all neccessary training, respect, and expirence. I'm currently in the Second half of my Firefighter I course.

Now a little about my department. Were a small town with 3 departments, 2 engines and a ladder company. My ladder company responds into almost every town within 10 miles or so (around 12 different districts) within a 4th alarm. Although were not a busy call (200-250 runs a year) Were a very Active department. Someones always at the station, were always training, and were always trying to make change for the better. We have made a big impact on surrounding departments over the past few years, and we intend on keeping a good reputation. We run about 9 voulenteer guys, 6 being the younger generation. With this, we have found a way to make things work, and do what needs to be done in a safe, and efficient way almost everytime.

The reason I'd like to express my opionings, get input, and post my thoughts to you, the Firefighter's of today, is to see how everyone else feels about pushing issues in my area. I have big opinions for a little, young guy, but an opinion is just that for a reason. Hopefully someone can get something out of my words.

Thanks guys
