An Airbag Deployment Question for Auto Extrication Enthusiasts

Can an airbag actually be deployed/activated by a smack from a pedestrian? If so, it makes me a little more nervous dealing with an airbag in a MVA that may or may not go off... Any thoughts here?

When I saw this video, it made me wonder if it was real or staged...

A qualified "yes" on this one, CBz. Current-generation SRS air bags are triggered by deceleration. If the deceleration and pedestrian smack are sudden enough, the air bags can be triggered.

I think it's all hollywood....seen it before and loved it:) Didn't seem like the airbag came out with much force which leads me to think FX
