Accountability do we do it or not?
Accountability all Fire Company's talk about it. Some thought of how to do it. Some company's
even go as far as to issue accountability tags. There are all different form of the tags that are issued out
there. If we finally get the tags with the persons picture on them with, there rank on them and the fire
company name. Everything is so far so far so good. Now you have to train your people to use the tags.
There should be three tags to each fire fighter. One you leave on the truck that you came in, clip it to
a set spot inside. Then the next one you give to the person that is the safety officer before you go
inside. The last one will remain on you at all times. Now if all goes well this is how it suppose to work.
The Safety Officer and the rest of the fire company needs to practice what to do if there is a fire and what
to do with your tags and who to see before you go running inside and no one knows you are in there and
God forbid something happens with the building, who's going to come and rescue you if they don't know
you are in there? So next time some one is standing there collecting tags help them out a little bit and
go to them and give them your tag, try no to have them running all over the fire area to get the tags from
the fire fighters. Everyone comes out that goes in!

Ok here is the way it should work;
1 tag to PIC of truck/engine/rescue, he then presents them to IC or staging officer on-scene, if you are assigned a task they are then placed on the master board.
1 tag to the safety officer upon entry
1 tag to remain with you.
Some will go as far as to place one at the station if you respond. This will work for either clip tags or Velcro tags.

we have accountability tag that we use at the dept. that i'm with. we put the tag on our helmets until we get in the truck for a call. then we have a ring the tags go on. if for some reason we go to a different truck thats were our tags to go. the system works ok. their is always better and much easier ways of keeping accountability of your members. has any one use a computer sysem? every call is different so you really have to look at all your call and come up with a system that really works best for you dept.
