I've written about the event but I'm ashamed to say that I've never visited the memorial site before last night. Nonetheless, I'm glad I attended the brief, quiet remembrance for the five Buffalo firefighters who were killed in the line of duty on December 27, 1983.

Here's a story of my experience at the corner of Grosvenor and North Division Streets and what happened there almost 30 years ago.

I found it interesting that I would see your article today. I was jsut thinking about the Buffalo FF's yesterday when I was reading about the explosion in Wayne, Mich. I had been a FF for 8 years then. I was working on Engine 15 in Spokane's Hillyard neighborhood. That incident had a big influence on me and my participation in our departments safety committee and the Washington State Council of Firefighters safety committee. I remember the brothers and thier story of sacrifice. Thank you for reminding us.
