This week was a busy week for me. I am starting the Morris County Training Academy on Monday. I went to my orientation the other day and I was in a huge class and everyone was at least half my age. I was very intimidated.

When I went back to my firehouse the next day and saw my friends, whom are older than me, they were so encouraging and told me not to worry. I don't smoke, drink, or do drugs. I just have fibromyalgia and take care of myself as best I can to stay pain free.

We took a tour of the grounds and were told see that third story window, you'll be going in there. And we were shown a vehicle used during a vehicle extrication drill. And I thought how cool is the fact that I've already practiced during drills going in a third story window, and practiced extrications. When you have encouragement from the other firefighters, and support of your leaders to keep you safe, it doesn't seem like I'm too old at all.

I will be 47 during the second week of July. How cool is 47 in school like a boot camp, doing something you always dreamed of? I just need to get that motorcycle ride, another milestone for me.

Wish me luck!

Don't sweat it, you'll do just fine. As a friend of mine once said, "Age and experience with overcome youth and vitality any day."
