Four Kansas City firefighters were injured this morning when a porch collapsed while they were battling an intentionally set fire in south-central Kansas City. None of the firefighters suffered serious injuries, but all required hospital treatment.
The fire in a two-story vacant house in the 6700 block of the Paseo was reported about 1:30 a.m. Saturday and heavy flames were showing when firefighters arrived, said Battalion Chief Joe Vitale.
Four firefighters were working on the poured concrete slab, when it collapsed into the basement, Vitale said. They suffered various sprains, lacerations and strains, he said.
Damage to the building was estimated at about $20,000.
