Now that's a weird title, but how else can I sum it up on Thursday up in Summit Cty? I got my first intubation and my first helicopter ride. I had a 74yr old cva patient who had a significant subdural with a midline shift who per the accepting neurosurgeon was about to go into cardiac arrest. I got my first non-O.R. intubation(albeit a learning moment), I pulled up all the RSI meds my partner was to give and I got him tubed!!! That was pretty cool....then packaging him for a quick flight to Denver with the weather minimums a bit imposing made it for a let's-go-now kinda flight. We did a very quick hand-off on our helipad to race the clouds over the Divide so we could get home. I got my first helicopter ride in there too!!!
I'm getting the RSI protocols beaten into me by Maureen and that is good for me. There is so much to learn; from what is in the Fred's case, to the layout of the supplies in the helicopter, to memorizing the protocols(there are over 30), to knowing where the bathrooms are in the different hospitals! Maybe that's why I'm napping more? My brain is full.
I'm on Lifeguard 1 at St.A's North tomorrow and back to Summit on Monday then our Fixed wing plane on weds/thurs. Gonna be a busy week. Time to get back to my protocols. take care gang and stay safe.
