The numbness falls over you the moment you know.
You quietly say a prayer,
and wish for every-one to continue on,
not stop and stare.
We know they are dead there's
nothing really we could do,
but we act and we try,
just like we were told in the books we read.
We keep them alive,
if only for a moment to try and preserve whats left
of their drive.
The lights are flashing, the siren is screaming,
the blood is flowing and the people in front of us
are dashing out of our way,
people behind us are racing to us to see,
Is it their loved one, is it their child,
is it their Mom or Dad,
is it someone they know?
We bounce around like pinballs in a game,
we keep them alive and try and keep their pride.
With every piece of Clothing and every tube we put in them
we know they are going to die.
We have the lines established, we have the tube in place,
bagging and flowing is going at our pace.
The monitor shows us the truth,
when the body shuts down and now we fight a little harder,
we start the compressions, we yell TO GO FASTER,
we know it is over but we still try.
We break the rules of life,
we fight with death,
it comes so suddenly and over takes us
with his mighty fist.
God has beckoned them home,
even though we don't know them we will not let them go.
God I am sorry,
you put me here for this,
because of that we will fight,
Day in and Day out,
Doesn't matter.... we will go to their aide.
We know we can't win,
but thank you for the opportunity to
try and try again.
When the numbness falls over you the moment you know.
