Many people don’t like to admit there mistakes, I just like the show off my funny mistakes so others can do that same one day in the future.
First of all a male and male does not work in the fire service neither does a female and a female…
Also, make sure the ladder is facing the right way and you are not putting it up backwards!
An scba is not that hard to put on, its all in ur mind except when someone has turned your air off and you have to put it back on!
We did not use a halligan tool to get that glove out of the vent and neither did we use a pry axe… we used something else… I just forgot what it was now!
Do not try to grab the hose from the bottom of the hose bed unless your superman you are not going to be able to get it and its just going to turn into a hell of a mess.
A 1 ½ inch hose just pisses on a fire but a 2 ½ works pretty well!
Always make sure you are holding your hose because you never know when someone is going to turn it off and on at u and watch u pull back a little and laugh!
Giving your team mates a shower with the hose when you’re on the nozzle is loads of fun!
Never toss your gear around when you have a little vent on the floor; you never know when you’re going to have to get a glove out of the hole just for that reason.
If the hole is five feet or even four feet you cannot grab it with you hand! You are just too short!
Make sure even if you take your glove off to remove the snaps on top of the hose bed that you remember to get your gloves and not forget about them. Otherwise after it’s done you will figure it out and have to go fishing for your missing gloves!
Water is good at a fire, it may not taste like coke but at least you won’t get a bad headache afterwards….
Working out is not optional, you may be able to swing by but your going to be wishing you did for the next two days because you ache from fighting a fire
Always do buddies checks because you never know what you may have accidentally forgot to have on if you don’t
Most importantly keep training and keep learning and don’t be afraid to make mistakes while your training later you are just going to be laughing about it and so is everyone else at the station..
To get over a fear of heights just drink two red bulls, they will give you wings and make you almost fearless for a little while. Now I love heights even if I don’t have a redbull in my hand!
Adrenaline is awesome, unless your in rehab and your heart rate wont go down fast enough and your trying to convince the medic its just natural for your heart to be that way.. So you can go back out and do something
Also power tools do require you to actually put some weight on them… it does not mean they do all the work for you! even though I wish it did!
Most of all i just enjoy doing stuff like this and then laughing at myself later about it! :D thats what makes me such an awesome firefighter
So, Remember - When you hear your pager go off its not a dream it’s real so remember to wake up!
